Being a racist isn't as easy as it used to be.  Nor is this generation nearly as good at it as is my generation...so, in aid of intergenerational socialization, conservatism and just plain Americanism, I thought it would be good to give some advice to young people on How to Be a Racist.

First, it used to be that one could use just plain hate, just plain invective and just plain violence in order to reproduce racist ideas and ethnic superiority.

Not so these days.

Now, one must learn a lot of genetic, socio-biology, theory of testing and measurement, as well as a lot of sociological theory in order to do a good job of it.

Let me first, make the general point that, in order to be a good racist, it is best to appeal to biology and physiology.  The Human Genome is so complex and so little understood that, with a bit of creative imagination, one can make a good case for two, four, eight, sixteen or even 32 different races.  After all, who can gainsay you on a set of some 3 billion genes all in incredibly complex arrays which are so well mixed that even the best genetic mapping could not show with certainty the null hypothesis.

Genetic chains do come in bundles which can be used by those clever enough to argue for racism.  It used to be that color, eye shape, hair and muscle patterns were clear and adequate to the task...but now, with all this cross-breeding, these ancient stand-bys are of less use.  Now one must appeal to attributes of groups which are abstract rather than perceptible.

Poverty, crime, high death rates and faulty English remain useful to the task but more about these in how to use sociology later.

Secondly, Physiology is a good marker for the compleat racist.  Sickle cell anemia, glucose intolerance, immune system deficiency all make good talking points to those who want to hear the message.  And, there is no talking to those who don't want to hear our racist theories so go ahead and make good use of them.

Psycho-metry is a great source with which to ground racism...just point to all the I.Q. tests, all the achievement tests, all the aptitude tests and all the tests of psychosis, depression and paranoia; they will give the kind of data we need to maintain the culture of racial superiority.

Sociology is a god-send to good racists.  It provides both theory and data with which to make a case.  Structural-Functional theory is a particularly rich grounding for both racial and gender divisions of labor...with we White Males taking the best jobs based upon sacrifice, ability and merit.  We just define whatever we do as sacrifice and whatever we accomplish at meritorious...and if we have the best positions in industry, commerce, academia and church, it proves we must have the ability...especially if the economy goes well; the schools turn out good workers and the Churches keep the peace of their God.

Control Theory is also good...it enables us to put mis-fits into prison instead of changing Our Way of Life.  Labeling Theory can be used since it doesn't bother to ask why people deviate in the first.  The same thing is true of Differential Association...why do those with whom poor black males associate commit crimes...don't ask, don't tell.  And Merton's Strain theory is so vague that no one can use it for anything but the fuzziest of generalities.  For example, when it talks about blockages to social goals, it doesn't mention racism, sexism or class privilege...nor do the sociology texts which explain deviancy.  So the good racist can simply say that failure to conform is due to racial defects and female incompetancies.

And, fortunately, Conflict theory is so thin and watery that anyone could handle objections that racism is bad for a society. Just use Nisbet and his cross-cutting cleavages instead of Marx and the conflict is safely managed...indeed, conflict becomes a positive asset in the hands of a good sociologist...competition is the spice of life and the driving force of all progress.

And Marx is safely contained within the stupidity of economic determinism and bureaucratic socialism...no one could take Marx seriously if we are successful in limiting discussion in history, economics and sociology to the bare skeleton of Marxist theory and the bald failures of Soviet Socialism.

So, sociology, psychology, physiology and biology are important tools in the hands the new generation of racists.
