University of Tennessee-Knoxville. The Department of Sociology invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, beginning Fall 2006. The preferred candidate should possess a Ph.D. at the time of appointment. Currently, faculty members have research and teaching interests in the following specific areas of social justice: criminology, criminal justice, restorative justice, social movements, gender and race/ethnicity, environment, political economy, and globalization. The candidate's specialization must be within those areas; a specialization that intersects any two areas is desirable. The Department offers a highly collegial and supportive environment for research and teaching, and its members are committed to working together on a range of sociological issues. Preference will be given to individuals with strong evidence and promise of publication and obtaining external funding. Knoxville is a gateway city to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Cumberland Mountains, and the Blue Ridge National Parkway. It also offers a wide variety of cultural, recreational, and professional opportunities.
