Text Box: JUSTICE STUDIES ASSOCIATION
Dear Members and Friends of JSA,

Mark your ASC calendars for Wednesday November 16th at 5:30 pm. The place is the Upper Canada Room of the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Ontario.

As President of Justice Studies Association I would like to invite you to a one-hour concert (5:30-6:30) on Wednesday November 16th that JSA is co-sponsoring with Routledge (publishers of our journal Contemporary Justice Review) at the 2005 meeting of the American Society of Criminology. The concert will feature noted social justice, folk singers and songwriters Pat Humphries and Sandy Opatow (see http://www.pathumphries.com/).

These two remarkable women have performed at two of JSA’s annual conferences and it is no hyperbole to say that all who were privileged to attend were just blown away at their significant, relevant, and insightful lyrics and their haunting harmonies. As you reflect on your Toronto experience, you are likely to conclude that Pat and Sandy’s performance was the highlight of ASC in Toronto.

Immediately following the concert, Routledge will host a social in the Upper Canada Room of the Fairmont Royal York (see your ASC program book for directions) to which you are also be invited. However, so that we do not come up short on either potent prandials or potable provender we ask that you RSVP to Assistant Editor of CRJ, Diane Williams (dsw27@earthlink.net) as soon as you can.

Come to this event and experience the joys of Pat and Sandy’s music and find out more about JSA's 2006 8th annual meeting next June 7-10 in Berkeley California. Those of you who know us and those of you we would like to know are welcome. In any case you should visit our website at www.justicestudies.org.

By the way, the concert and social hour is being sponsored by Routledge in celebration of the launch of the new 38-chapter, 600-page edited book by JSA co-founders Dennis Sullivan and Larry Tifft, Handbook of Restorative Justice: A Global Perspective which will be available for review at the Routledge booth downstairs in the publishers area at the ASC conference.

See you in November.

In Peace,
Dan Okada, President
Justice Studies Association
